Chancellor Keon and his administrative hanger on, and many professional tenure professors, are consciously planning the end of Purdue Northwest (PNW). The plan is to get rid of NWI students to the point they will not be a factor anymore. It is succeeding beyond their wildest dreams -- especially with the new Chinese virus on the loose.
Remember that before the Chinese virus hit, PNW's enrollment for both campuses was down more, by far more, than the national average. PNW went down about one third or more; the national average was about 2 to 3 percent every year for at most the past five years, that is a total of fifteen or so percent. It is not going down, rather up, for Hispanics and other minorities. Look at the national figures for enrollment and high school graduation rates. You will quickly get to see that all of Keon's people and arguments are a total fraud. (Could be Mitch Daniels, President of Purdue University as a whole, as well.) Remember, in addition, over ten percent of PNW's students are from China and India, i.e. foreign students. They have pushed out NWI students. The plan is to get all of NWI students out of Calumet and North Central.
Over three years ago they had planned to get rid completely of Purdue North Central. But they found out that there were too many people at North Central that could present a problem to the closing of North Central. So what did they do? They, Chancellor Keon etc., shifted all the significant North Central people to Calumet slowly over the past three years. Like Swartz who is academically incompetent by is now Vice Chancellor of the Honors Program. Go figure. A complete know nothing is in charge of the Honors Program at Purdue Calumet. But he is not at North Central anymore. North Central never has contributed anything to Calumet. But supposedly the two were put together. Makes no sense unless you want to get rid of Purdue North Central.
There is not a student in their right mind who chooses PNW as their first school. You may choose it for a number of secondary reasons; but not for academic reasons, with the possible exception of nursing. PNW is planning to close -- when is anyone guess. I suspect it is while this Chancellor is chancellor. Maybe not. But PNW will close soon. DO NOT VOLUNTARILY COME HERE EVER!!! Remember the region has Indiana University Northwest (IUN) which more than fills the bill for you. It is not threatening closure that PNW is. Academically, PNW is generally a used to be academic institution. It is no more. It is totally a fraud. The value that you got from PNW is that you could lie and say that the really was a Purdue, West Lafayette, degree. No more can you lie. You received your so called degree from PNW not Purdue, West Lafayette. It is useless in most areas. Almost all areas. That is why most students in the know, advanced students or foreign students, transfer to West Lafayette on their second or third year.
When PNW closes there will only be IUN and Purdue Calumet. Mitch Daniels has already said, many times, he does not want anything to do with PNW. It will become part of IU. Purdue Global will take over Purdue North Central -- lock, stock, and barrel. There is no question about it. Only a question of time for the administrators to get enough of their money out of PNW. Remember the Chancellor of PNW makes over $450,000 per year. For what? No one knows.
Purdue University has just acquired Kaplan "university." Kaplan and Purdue are two entirely different entities. Purdue University enhances Kaplan; but Kaplan destroys the Purdue University brand. Where and how this idea came to President Mitch Daniels is beyond anyone's comprehension. If you actually want to read how bad this is look at the following article from the Chronicle of Higher Education:
This is What It Is Like When Purdue University Buys Kaplan "University"
This is what is called a scam. Nothing more and noting else. Why?
On September 27, 2013, Mr. Mark Bruzonsky will give a presentation at Purdue University Calumet. The title of his presentation is: “America and the Middle East—So Many Wars, So Little Peace, WHY?" According to Purdue University Calumet's own advertising, Dr. Kamalipour was “instrumental in bringing Bruzonsky to Purdue Calumet" (here).
Because I am interested in the Middle East, I decided to “google” Mr. Bruzonsky. And, I came across his blog (here). His blog is, well, “fascinating.” “Fascinating” in the sense that it promotes rank anti-Semitism, or what I like to affectionately call Jew hatred. Yes, yes, I know, Mr. Bruzonsky is Jewish (or put differently, a “so-called” Jew). So what? This fact only makes his rank peddling of Jew hatred more disgusting, not less so. Purdue University Calumet, in promoting Mr. Bruzonsky’s presentation, tells us that Mr. Bruzonsky brings “keen” and “impressive insight” to the Middle East (see here).
So what sort of “keen” and “impressive insight” does Mr. Bruzonsky bring to bear on his view of the Middle East? Let’s take a look!
The Jews control American foreign policy (

The Jews/Israel wants to
force the U.S. to attack Iran (

Zionism has “infiltrated” the
U.S. (here) – like a plague or disease you know.
In general Jews and Israel are the problem; the examples of his blog postings to demonstrate this fact are endless ( Download Article VI; full blog posted 9/14/2013).
Mr. Bruzonsky uses age-old canards that have been used to smear the Jewish people, and now Israel. Because an image is worth a thousand words, here is just a sampling of the rank Jew hating visual propaganda that litters the pages of Mr. Bruzonsky’s blog.
If this is what tolerance and advocating for global understanding looks like, I think I will pass, thank you.
But think of this: while Mr. Bruzonsky is welcomed with open arms – this so-called “Jew” who peddles vile Jew hatred and blames Jews/Israel for creating and perpetuating Middle Eastern problems and conflict – another Jew – Ms. Peggy Shapiro – was denied a speaking engagement at Purdue University Calumet (here and here). Apparently, this child of Holocaust survivors, this accomplished woman who works on behalf of Jews and is a tireless advocate for Israel through StandWithUs – she was simply “too controversial” for Purdue University Calumet faculty and administrators.
While Purdue University resources can go to the Jew who peddles rank anti-Semitism and is a vicious critic of Israel using the most vile images and arguments, those same resources are not available for a Jew who is the child of Holocaust survivors and is an avid supporter of Israel.
What can you, the Hoosier taxpayer do to stop this discrimination and double-standard where only left-wing, radical anti-American, anti-Israel speakers are welcomed on campus? Write your State legislator (legislative contact) , or Purdue University's State legislator, Sheila Klinker (h27@in.gov); write or call your Governor, Mike Pence, (317-232-4567 or email address) and write or call the President of Purdue University, Mitch Daniels (765-494-4600 or president@purdue.edu), or Purdue University Board of Trustees (trustees@purdue.edu). ALL VIEWS should be welcomed on campus – not just those that the University's administration happens to agree with.
A Global Anti-Hate Speech Petition on Behalf of PChancellor Thomas Keon, one assumes with the approval of President Mitch Daniels and the Purdue Board of Trustees, has decided to have another Purdue Regional Campus in Oman. That is in the Gulf of Arabia for those who wonder. Why is Indiana supporting another regional campus in Oman? Maybe they do not know what to do with your money?
For anyone who has any doubt read the message from Bayan's College current Chancellor Thomas Keon:
Bayan College and Purdue University Calumet
This is Bayan College's home page's specific quote stating that they are an extension of Purdue University: "Bayan College is affiliated with Purdue University - Calumet, Indiana, USA. It offers diplomas and Bachelor's degrees here in Oman in accordance with the Purdue University system."
How many of you thought PUC was really trying to get students fron NWI, or Purdue University wanted in state students? That was all a figment of someone's imagination. Remember that Purdue in West Lafayette is only about half in-state Hoosier students. Why are you paying all this money as a Hoosier taxpayer? When will Indiana's Governor Mike Pence be sufficiently embarrassed to start looking at what is being done with billions of dollars of Hoosier taxpayer money every single year.
There is talk of Governor Mike Pence runing for President of the United States. There is also talk of Purdue University's President Mitch Daniels running for the same job. It will not happen because this waste, among many, will not be forgiven.
Other local colleges deny financial problems, point to successful strategies : Gary News.
Either every college in NWI is lying, that is their administrators are lying about their financial conditions and in many case the central administrators in Bloomington and West Lafayette are also lying, or Chancellor Keon is making up financial stories. Everyone with any knowledge believes Keon and his cronies are making up stories. By the way, this includs preliminary analysis by the American Association of University Professors (AAUP). They analyzed the financial statements the are available to the public and were filed with the Department of Education of the U.S. Government. Guess what, there is plenty of cash.
It seems that Keon is firing and retiring everyone he can from the adjunce temporary to full time faculty, without a complaint from anyone. It is about the Hammond, Tom McDemott, and the State of Indiana take the higher education of their children seriously and not leave it in the hands of the inherently incompetent.
Where is the Indiana State Legislature? Where is the Indiana Commission on Higher Education? Where is its head Teressa Lubbers (a close personal friend of Mitch Daniels)?
Purdue University Calumet (PUC) has been hiring friends and supporters, but incompetent ones, of Chancellor Keon to perform the roles upon everyone else's economic livelihood is dependent. A good example is the Vice Chancellor for Advancement. This former highly paid administrative assistant to Keon is now in charge of fund raising. Is this a real joke? Now look at what Ivy Tech Community College did in fundraising:
Ivy Tech exceeds fundraising goal by millions.
As you can see from the newspaper article Ivy Tech put Purdue Calumet to shame and shows the incompetence of the people who are running the campus. It is the Peter Principle not the Business Model that is being utlized at PUC. The people in charge have been promoted to the absolute level of incompetence.
The overall incompetency of the so called PUC Senior Leadership Team (SLT) is show by the fact that the SLT have not been able to manage the campus without loosing millions of dollars and not being able to produce any money for the campus. The leader in this incompetency seems to be the man in charge: Chancellor Keon.
Recently the Purdue University Board of Trustees, under the guidance of the University's new President Mitch Daniels, implemented a freeze on any further tuition increase for the next two years. The argument presented at the time is that this will cost Purdue $40 million. The freeze only applied to West Lafayette and not the regional campuses.
In reality does this have any consequences for higher education costs or is this just an event with no substance but much fan fare? Much as Daniels performed at OMB when he directed that budget agency.
At first glance it would seem that this is a courageous drive to be one of the first to limit the cost to students and their parents of higher education. But is that really the case here?
Let us be perfectly clear. Anytime that tuition does not go up cannot be bad. It is a good. The question we have here is, is it a long term good; and is it intended to do what is claimed that it is supposed to do.
The $40 million dollars this move supposedly cost Purdue was never money Purdue actually had. It is "theoretical" money so nothing was reduced or taken away. In fact, the 2-3% increase in Hoosier State funding, tax payers money, that was provided to Purdue by far exceeded any $40 million, and the Hoosier tax funds are real money. Overall, for the next two years, Purdue University is doing very very well with the increase in Indiana tax payer funding. But waite, this is solely for West Lafayette. How did this happen? Purdue University's request for tax payer funds for Fort Wayne campus and for the Hammond campus were dashed and significantly reduced. The only increase was for the Purdue North Central campus, its smallest regional campus. Was this an accident or the result of exactly what West Lafayette wanted? Common cynics, what do you think?
Purdue's campuses in Fort Wayne and in Hammond will not only see less tax payer money, they will also see an increase in the tuition charged to all students. Has anyone so far seen anything that in fact helps students with their higher education costs? Or are cost realy going up under some new and different names?
In December of 2012, Timothy Sands, then Acting President of Purdue University, and the Chancellors of Fort Wayne and Calumet (Hammond) all agreed that the majority of Hoosier students attend regional campuses (of IU and Purdue) and it is the regional campuses that have the real economic impact on the Hoosier State. One easy example is the one they refrenced. About 90% of regional campus students remain in Indiana; very few students at Purdue West Lafayette will ever remain in Indiana to provide economic value. The value to Hoosier tax payers is putting money into the regional campuses NOT West Lafayette or Bloomington. The actual distribution of money per student is provided here: Funding per FTE per Indiana Higher Ed Campus by the Chancellor of Fort Wayne to the Purdue Board of Trustees. As everyone can see the least amount of tax dollars go to most of the Hoosier students. Anyone think that the Trustees or the State Legislature did not know about this? I know they did because I was there testifying to the House and the Senate about this bias against Indiana as a Hoosier TaxPayer.
What else is going on in West Lafayette (and Bloomington)? The irony is that most of the undergraduate students at West Lafayette are either out-of-state or foreign students. Purdue West Lafayette prides itself in having the highest number of undergraduate foreign students. In West Lafayette and Bloomington about half the students have no history Indiana and they will leave (brain drain). University of Illinois, no. 5 in the nation for undergraduates according to US News & World Report, has just reached 20% none resident students. Purdue and IU do not even crack the top ten.
Mitch Daniels may yet do what he said he would and what Hoosier tax payers want him to do. He has not yet. So far it has been mostly hype with little substance.
Where Purdue University Calumet is highlighted as abusing the due process and First Amendment rights of a faculty member in the following Wall Street Journal editorial, that person is me. See the following:
Greg Lukianoff: Feds to Students: You Can't Say That - WSJ.com.
What is truly remarkable is that this is a continuation of the anti-American activity of previous presidents of the University. Many individuals, including myself, believed that Mitch Daniels did harbor Republican values. He even indicated this case in his "Memo to the Purdue Community" during his first week on the job. The answer by Provost Sands of Purdue University was that the University's policies were reviewed by Federal Courts and found to in compliance. This was actually said to the Journal and Courier Newspaper of West Lafayette. It is a flat out misrepresentation.
On top of this Purdue University's Vice President Rollock actually says and argues that Purdue University as a Indiana State organization does not have to follow either Federal or State Law, or Constitution. It is its own power center and what the top administrators say is law.
It seems that history repeats itself. Daniels has not shown any Republican or conservative values, except in budget manipulation. I am saying manipulation because as head of OMB and as governor of Indiana a close scrutiny would show that he accomplished little in terms of value implementation and ironically even less in monetary spending changes. It seems to have been the same since he came to Purdue University. Rememer, Mitch Daniels has allowed a faculty member to be ostercized and isolated with due process of any kind by Sands and has refused to act on this in any way, forcing to faculty member to go to Federal court two weeks ago.
He will win because everyone knows that what Sands and Rollock are doing, at best, approaches criminal activity, Where is Mitch Daniels? No one really knows. But Purdue's legal bills, those paid by the taxpayers will continue to go up.
Hoosier tax payers are paying the President of Ball State University a million dollars a year for what? No one knows. See the following list. Ball State University's president is number 5. Number 1 is going to jail for allowing pedophilia on the campus of Penn State.
10 highest paid public college leaders in 2011-12.
What are Hoosier tax payers getting for their tax dollars? Is this really a joke? No!! This is what your legislatures accepted and passed to misuse your and my tax dollars for this wast. I pleaded in front of the Indiana House Ways and Means Committee and the Indiana Senate Appropriation Committe for a forensic audit of Hoosier universities so that they could for once find out what was going on. This is the over-sight function of the Indiana Legislature. Both of the Committee chairs, Representative Timothy Brown and Senator Luke Kenley refused to act and shut me down as though I was another Hoosier tax payer. We must all teach them who is in charge. Each on of these Chairman OK'd the President of Ball State to make a million dollars (probably plus) in pay from my pocket.
It is amazing that during their whole testimoney Teresa Lubbers and the Indiana Commission on Higher Education never once told the Legilature about this kind of thievery.
The let the charlatans and thieves from the universities speak all they wanted. It is time for Hoosier Citizens and Patriots to work to ensure that the conspiretors on the committee do not return to the legilature in the next election.
