The following column, projecting 2013, was written by the great lawyer, Hammond Mayor, and Lake County Democrat Party Chair, Mr. Tom McDermott, Jr.
Hammond continues to see new projects, developments : Hammond News.
When you read this all that a civilized, reasoned person can do is cry. One can only cry because the incompetency of the McDermott clan is so obvious or, alternatively, it is not incompetency -- just too busy stealing, which is the norm for Democrat (are there any Republicans?) politicians in Lake County. What is clear is that there is nothing, absolutely nothing, being done to improve Hammond or Lake County economically.
(By the way, I am aware there are exceptions. But the Democrat exceptions are so rare that in fact they have minimal, if any, consequances for Lake County.
McDermott mentions two, and only two, projects for development in Hammond, The Dowling athletics fields in conjunction with Purdue University Calumet (PUC) and the possible move by a railroad company's logistical operation to Hammond. The PUC project is at least two years old and was promoted already as a success under McDermott's lacky former Chancellor Howard Cohen. What is the new reality? The other project is just a big possible -- if -- that was already embellished in 2011. Even if it were to come to life it will only consist of 70 jobs in a county that had the least new job growth in Indiana.
The piece was filled with the free travel and partying that McDermott is doing in Indianapolis. Why? Who knows? These, under McDermott and his lackys, have never ever imporved Lake County's business and economic climate.
By the way, McDermott makes between $140,000 -180,000 in his "various" political positions and contractor paybacks. Is it worth it to you?
